Blue Planet Child Care

Our Educational Philosophy

Every child is like their own little planet: unique, bright, and full of potential waiting to be discovered. At Blue Planet Child Care, we believe children grow best in an environment where they feel safe, understood, and supported with love. Our approach respects individual differences and offers flexibility to support each child’s unique path of development.

Our Program and Curriculum

The one-of-a-kind curriculum at Blue Planet Child Care is a blend of Bloom’s Taxonomy, Alberta’s Flight Curriculum Framework, and the Theory of Multiple Intelligences. Our program is designed to create a respectful space for children and adults, allowing a child to develop a sense of trust and build relationships. Our movement-based and interdisciplinary learning approach encourages children to explore and learn through play, incorporating science, music, language, and art. We celebrate diversity and inclusivity, ensuring that our environment and program recognize and respect various cultures, ethnicities, abilities, and languages .

Our goal is to encourage and facilitate opportunities for children to become confident, thoughtful, empathetic, and curious individuals]. Children's development, strengths, and interests are observed and documented by Educators and used as key ingredients for emerging activities. All children will be provided with weekly music lessons and daily movement activities.

Child Enrolment and Program Rooms

Blue Planet Child Care is designed with three distinct program rooms: Earth, Saturn, and Jupiter .

  • Earth Room: For 16 children aged 19 months to under 47 months.
  • Saturn Room: For 16 children aged 3 and 4 years old.
  • Jupiter Room: For 20 children aged 4 to 6 years (not yet in Grade One).

Children are placed in a group that is in the best interest of the child’s care, needs, and development, which may not always align with their chronological age. This approach fosters stability and allows children to build strong relationships with peers and educators.

Inclusion and Family Participation

Inclusivity of children, families, and staff is more than a standalone policy. We want children to know they belong, are safe, and accepted for who they are. The success of a child’s experience includes the relationship between families and the educators. We value the primary role of families in their child's life and encourage parents to be a part of their child's day at any time.

Outdoor Activities

An outdoor play space is located on-site at Blue Planet Child Care. We believe that daily outside time is a contributor to healthy growth, curiosity, exploration, and development. Educators will provide daily outdoor experiences for one hour of play, except in cases of extreme weather conditions. Outdoor play will be cancelled if temperatures are below -20 degrees Celsius or above 28 degrees Celsius.

License Status

Blue Planet Child Care is proud to be a fully licensed Group Day Care facility, operated under the non-profit organization of Bright Sunshine Daycare Ltd. We are licensed by the Government of Alberta under the Early Learning and Child Care Act and Regulation. This licensing ensures our program meets and exceeds the provincial standards required to support the safety, well-being, and developmental needs of every child in our care.

Languages

Our center is working to expand its activities to include languages other than English, in line with a multicultural approach. Currently, Turkish, Hindi, and Punjabi are spoken at our center.
